Disallowed A2P Messaging Content in the United States

These A2P messaging categories are a combination of federally illegal as well as content and use-cases that have historically resulted in a high volume of SPAM and consumer complaints. Because of this, the following content and use-cases are disallowed and blocked on US A2P, inclusive of 10DLC, Short Codes, and Toll-Free, regardless of opt-in status.

These categories currently will not be approved by The Campaign Registry or Direct Connect Aggregators (DCAs) in registration, and will therefore be completely cut off once unregistered traffic is blocked on December 1, 2024.

Disallowed categories include:  

  • SHAFT (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco)
  • High-Risk Financial Services  
    • Payday Loans
    • Short Term- High Interest Loans
    • Auto Loans & Mortgage Loans from non-direct lenders.
    • Student Loans
    • Debt Collection
    • Gambling/Sweepstakes
    • Stock Alerts
    • Cryptocurrency
  • Debt Forgiveness
    • Debt Consolidation
    • Debt Reduction
    • Credit Repair Programs
  • Get Rich Quick Schemes
    • Deceptive Work from Home Programs
    • Risk Investment Opportunities
    • Multi-Level Marketing
  • Job Postings - Exceptions permitted if the message sender is the one doing the hiring
  • Controlled Substances
    • Cannabis, CBD & Hemp Products
    • All Schedule 1 & 2 drugs
    • Tobacco and Vape
