RCS (Rich Communication Services) is certainly making headlines in cloud communications. In our industry, the term we use is actually RBM (Rich Business Messaging), which is essentially the business-focused counterpart to RCS, similar to application-to-person (A2P) or business-to-consumer messaging, while RCS serves as the person-to-person (P2P) equivalent.
RBM boasts multimedia capabilities, read receipts, more interactive and branded texts to customers, and other app-like functionalities directly in the messaging app.
It’s important to note that RBM is still in early stages and not supported industry-wide. Universal carrier and platform support remain a work in progress.
Telgorithm is excited to share that we will support RBM (Rich Business Messaging) in the near future and as always, our product will be innovative and designed to meet the same high standards we’ve set for 10DLC messaging.
We see RCS as an addition to A2P 10DLC messaging as it's really a message type that can be sent within the 10DLC ecosystem. Because of that fact, we will offer automated backwards and forwards compatibility for RBM and 10DLC.
What this means:
RBM is a new channel and will not be supported industry-wide or work on every phone for some time. Telgorithm's offering will auto-detect if the end user’s device your customer is trying to reach supports RBM or not. If the device does not support RBM, the message will automatically be converted to a standard SMS message for delivery.
This ensures you avoid miss-cues or deliverability errors for your customer’s messaging as RBM rolls out!
