RBM (Rich Business Messaging)

Definition

Rich Business Messaging (RBM) is a business-focused extension of Rich Communication Services (RCS) that enables companies to deliver interactive, branded, and engaging messages directly to customers.

Unlike traditional application-to-person (A2P) SMS, RBM offers advanced features like quick-reply buttons, rich media, and suggested actions, creating a more dynamic and conversational communication experience.

RBM is designed to enhance customer interactions by integrating branding elements such as logos and colors, while supporting high-resolution images, videos, and carousels. It also enables businesses to provide actionable options directly within messages, such as scheduling appointments, confirming bookings, or browsing product catalogs.

RBM is ideal for various business use cases, including customer support, marketing campaigns, appointment reminders, and transactional updates. Its interactivity and rich media features allow businesses to create a seamless and engaging customer experience.

It’s important to note that RBM is still in early stages and not supported industry-wide. Universal carrier and platform support remain a work in progress.

Another important factor to keep in mind is that RCS will not serve as a workaround for the 10DLC compliance requirements and registration enforcements. In fact, compliance will be just as critical for RBM as it is for A2P 10DLC messaging.
